Andy didn’t waste any time. Didn’t question whether someone had really tracked their location and was chasing after them. When Asteria said to grab their things and run for their lives, he leapt to his feet and seized Poseidon’s Trident. At the same time, Zoey snatched the Helm of Darkness out of their pack and tossed it to Kali.

“Put it on!” Zoey shouted. “Hold hands with Andy and Darko. I’ll touch one of them so we’ll all be invisible!”

Kali didn’t hesitate to follow Zoey’s instructions. One moment she was there, the next she wasn’t. Then she was grabbing Andy’s free hand, and Darko’s too. They disappeared along with her. Darko must have taken Zoey’s remaining hand in his because she turned invisible next.

Together, the four of them barreled across the beach in the shallowest of shallows, where the coming waves would hopefully wash away their footprints, but the gritty sand and frigid water made it difficult to travel as quickly as usual. Behind them, Asteria shouted, “If you want the Chosen Two, you’ll have to destroy me first, Moon Goddess.” A female voice replied, but the words were muffled. Andy couldn’t make out what was said.

Asteria yelled something else, and Andy picked up his pace, still holding tight to Kali. “C’mon, guys,” he said, heart racing. “We gotta go faster!”

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of someone stepping out from the tree line. A colossal, muscular someone. Was that Artemis, as Asteria had initially suspected? Or some other Huntress?

He glanced over to get a better look. The figure looked classically masculine, with dark-olive skin and curly black hair. Could that be . . .?

“Anteros, Calliope, stop! I was mistaken!” Asteria cried from behind them. The group stumbled to a halt and turned around, still not letting go of one another. Three young women stood next to Asteria, though Andy couldn’t make out many of their discernable features from here. “I apologize for frightening you so,” the goddess continued. “But Artemis and her Huntresses did not find us. It’s the nymphs and—”

“Prometheus!” Zoey shrieked with glee. She reappeared, hurtling up the beach toward the massive figure. Kali let go of Andy, and she and Darko became visible as she released the satyr and took off the Helm. She slipped the object under her arm and ran after Zoey.

Andy peered toward the tree line, Darko at his side, and sure enough, he spotted the Titan. Prometheus jogged toward Zoey and Kali, his wrists and ankles still bound with what was left of the chains forged by Hephaestus, his torn white robes covered in grime and dried blood.

Relief flooded Andy. It was a false alarm. He and Darko shared grins. He hopped into the air and soared toward Prometheus, and Darko galloped behind him.

“I see you’re finally putting those wings to good use, Bird-Boy,” Prometheus said with a laugh as he scooped up Zoey and Kali, one with each burly arm, and hugged them to his chest. Andy landed beside them, and Prometheus set Zoey and Kali down.
